Animal Hospital is the solo moniker of Boston-based musician and engineer Kevin Micka. Emerging in 2004 following his tenure in The Common Cold, Micka transitioned from traditional band dynamics to a highly technical solo performance style centered on real-time loop construction.

His sound is characterized by the use of multiple amplifiers, mixing consoles, and delay units to build 'nests' of sound. Unlike the explosive dynamics of 90s post-rock, Animal Hospital favors a more linear, additive approach akin to minimalism and ambient techno, though executed with the tactile tools of rock (guitar, drums, effects). Micka's background as a recording engineer and electronics repairman is evident in the precision of his signal chains and the rich, analog quality of his recordings. He occupies a unique space between the DIY noise scene and the more refined world of modern composition, having toured with artists ranging from The Jesus Lizard to Beirut.
