Skittering breakbeats meet dusty jazz samples and organic textures. A restless, intricate blend of IDM and trip-hop for deep focus or late-night wandering.

Intro

Animals on Wheels sounds like a mechanical heart beating inside a wooden box. It is music that feels simultaneously frantic and grounded, defined by Andrew Coleman's ability to take the jagged, hyper-kinetic rhythms of 90s IDM and soften them with the warm, hazy textures of trip-hop and jazz. The percussion is often a highlight, featuring complex, skittering patterns that feel like they are constantly rearranging themselves in real-time.

What makes this project distinctive is the 'houseboat' aesthetic: a sense of being surrounded by water and machinery. Coleman often blends digital precision with analog imperfection, incorporating granular guitar loops and field recordings that give the music a tactile, lived-in quality. It lacks the coldness often associated with glitch music, opting instead for a soulful, slightly eccentric character that feels more like a conversation between a human and a computer.

Start with 'Designs and Mistakes' to hear the peak of his frenetic, breakbeat-driven energy. If you prefer something more atmospheric and melodic, 'Nuvol i Cadira' offers a more organic, textured experience that leans into the electro-acoustic side of his work.
