Intro

Anna Homler creates music that feels like it was unearthed rather than recorded. Her sound is defined by 'Linguistic Alchemy,' a process where she sings in a self-invented phonetic language that bypasses the rational mind to speak directly to the subconscious. It is music that occupies the space between ancient ritual and futuristic glitch, often utilizing toy instruments and found objects to create a rhythmic bed that feels both playful and deeply eerie.

What truly distinguishes Homler is her ability to transform the mundane into the mythic. Whether she is performing as the 'Breadwoman' - wrapped in dough and burlap - or collaborating with avant-garde percussionists, her work maintains a consistent sense of wonder. The textures are often dusty and organic, favoring the tactile click of wood and the breathy resonance of the human voice over polished digital synthesis.

For those new to her world, the 2016 reissue of 'Breadwoman & Other Tales' is the essential entry point. It captures her mid-80s experiments with Steve Moshier, offering a haunting, rhythmic journey that sounds like a transmission from a culture that never existed. It is the perfect soundtrack for moments of deep focus or surrealist daydreaming.
