Aquanote

Aquanote is the primary solo vehicle for Gabriel René, a San Francisco-based producer and multi-instrumentalist who was central to the West Coast's 'sophisticated house' movement in the late 1990s and early 2000s. As the son of a jazz musician and a founding member of Soulstice, René brought a high level of musicality to electronic production.

His work is synonymous with the Naked Music label, a boutique imprint that defined a specific sub-genre of deep house characterized by high-fidelity production, R&B sensibilities, and jazz-funk foundations. Aquanote's sound identity is built on 'liquid' textures, utilizing live bass, Rhodes piano, and a rotating cast of female vocalists to create a sound that is both electronic and organic. His 2002 debut 'The Pearl' remains a benchmark for the lounge and downtempo genres, praised for its impeccable mix quality and emotional depth.
