Guillaume Berroyer, performing as Ark, is a central figure in the French 'micro-house' and experimental electronic scene. Emerging from a background in 80s funk (notably Trankilou with Pepe Bradock), Berroyer transitioned into electronic production in the late 90s, bringing a unique rhythmic sensibility to the burgeoning minimal movement.

His work is characterized by a high degree of syncopation, a reliance on dry, non-reverberant textures, and a playful use of vocal manipulation. His career is punctuated by significant collaborations with genre titans like Matthew Herbert, LoSoul, and the Perlon label collective. Critically, he is viewed as a bridge between the rigid structures of techno and the fluid, improvisational feel of jazz and funk. His 2005 album 'Caliente' remains a touchstone of the era, showcasing his ability to turn glitchy, disparate sounds into cohesive, floor-ready grooves.
