Atreyu

Formed in Orange County in 1998, Atreyu emerged as a foundational architect of the American metalcore movement. Their early work on Victory Records, specifically 'Suicide Notes and Butterfly Kisses', helped define the genre's aesthetic: a blend of hardcore punk's intensity with the melodic sensibilities of the Gothenburg death metal scene.

As they evolved, the band integrated significant influences from 1980s hard rock and glam metal, a move that alienated some purists but secured their commercial dominance during the mid-2000s. This stylistic shift peaked with 'Lead Sails Paper Anchor', which saw them leaning into arena-rock structures and polished production. Critically, they are often cited for their unique vocal arrangement, where drummer Brandon Saller provides the melodic counterpoint to the primary unclean vocals. Despite a brief hiatus in the early 2010s, their return solidified their status as legacy acts of the Ozzfest era, maintaining a massive global following through consistent touring and a willingness to experiment with electronic and pop-rock elements in their later discography.
