Autolux

Mechanical drum precision meets a wash of distorted, ethereal textures. A high-fidelity collision of shoegaze haze and post-punk tension for late-night city drives.

Intro

Autolux is a seminal Los Angeles trio consisting of Eugene Goreshter, Greg Edwards (formerly of Failure), and Carla Azar. Formed in 2000, they emerged as a sophisticated evolution of the 90s space-rock and shoegaze movements, stripping away the excess and replacing it with a lean, avant-garde sensibility.

Their sound identity is defined by a unique interplay between Azar's highly technical, Liebezeit-influenced percussion and Goreshter’s melodic, often lead-driven bass lines. Greg Edwards provides the atmospheric glue, utilizing a wide array of pedals to create textures that bridge the gap between traditional guitar rock and electronic soundscapes. Their career is marked by a deliberate, slow output, releasing only three albums in two decades, which has contributed to their cult status and a reputation for uncompromising quality. Critically, they are lauded for their rhythmic innovation and for maintaining a high-fidelity aesthetic even when exploring abrasive noise. They occupy a unique cultural space as 'musician's musicians,' frequently cited as influences by major acts like Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails.
