Bash & Pop serves as the primary creative vehicle for Tommy Stinson following the 1991 dissolution of the Replacements. Formed in Minneapolis in 1992, the project allowed Stinson to transition from bassist to frontman, developing a songwriting voice heavily influenced by the raucous swagger of The Faces and the melodic sensibilities of Big Star.
Their 1993 debut, 'Friday Night Is Killing Me', is a cornerstone of midwestern power pop, featuring contributions from session veterans and members of the Replacements' extended family. Despite critical praise for its earnest energy, the band struggled to escape the shadow of Paul Westerberg's legacy. After a long hiatus during which Stinson joined Guns N' Roses, the band was revived in 2016, releasing 'Anything Could Happen' in 2017. This later era maintained the scrappy rock and roll spirit of the original lineup while showcasing a more seasoned, refined approach to songwriting. The band remains a cult favorite among crate diggers and fans of the 'Minneapolis sound'.
