Begotten

Begotten is the dark ambient and experimental electronic project of Costa Rican artist Begotten-CR. Emerging in the mid-2010s, the project carved out a niche within the global underground by blending the structural elements of techno with the atmospheric weight of depressive black metal and industrial drone.

Unlike many of its contemporaries in the ambient scene, Begotten maintains a rhythmic pulse that provides a skeletal framework for its dense, murky textures. The sound is characterized by extreme spatial processing, creating a 'submerged' aesthetic that has become the project's signature. Critically, Begotten is often associated with the 'DSBM' (Depressive Suicidal Black Metal) community despite being purely electronic, largely due to the shared emotional palette of isolation, despair, and existential dread. The project's evolution, seen in works like Escombros del cosmos, shows a move toward more complex glitch elements and bit-crushed synthesis while maintaining its foundational gloom. It occupies a unique space between the academic rigor of experimental electronics and the raw emotionality of extreme metal subcultures.
