Beyond Twilight

Beyond Twilight is a Danish progressive metal entity led by mastermind and keyboardist Finn Zierler. Emerging from the ashes of the power metal band Twilight in the late 90s, the project evolved into a highly conceptual and experimental vehicle for Zierler's complex compositions.

Their sound identity is characterized by a dark, theatrical atmosphere that blends traditional heavy metal with neoclassical arrangements and avant-garde structural choices. A defining feature of the band is their rotating cast of world-class vocalists, including Jorn Lande, Kelly Sundown Carpenter, and Björn Jansson, each bringing a different emotional weight to the band's cinematic storytelling. Their 2006 album, 'For the Love of Art and the Making', represents a peak in musical experimentation, consisting of 43 interconnected tracks designed to be played linearly or shuffled to create new narrative paths. Critically, they are regarded as a 'musician's band', praised for their refusal to follow standard genre tropes and their ability to maintain a consistent, brooding aesthetic across different lineups. They occupy a unique space between the symphonic grandeur of Ayreon and the technical precision of Symphony X.
