Intro

Big Wreck sounds like a collision between the grit of 90s alternative and the technical ambition of 70s stadium rock. It is music that feels physically heavy but intellectually nimble, anchored by Ian Thornley's massive, Chris Cornell-esque vocal delivery and a relentless barrage of inventive guitar textures. The production is consistently widescreen, offering a sense of vast space even when the distortion is at its thickest.

What truly sets them apart is their 'musician's musician' pedigree. While they can write a radio-ready hook, they frequently detour into complex open tunings, slide guitar mastery, and rhythmic shifts that would make a jazz fusion band sweat. They treat the electric guitar as a limitless laboratory, layering sounds that feel both organic and meticulously engineered.

Start with 'In Loving Memory Of...' for the classic 90s hits that defined their sound, then move to 'Ghosts' to hear their modern evolution into a more progressive, atmospheric powerhouse. It is the perfect soundtrack for anyone who wants their rock music to have both a soul and a high IQ.

Big Wreck are a Canadian rock band formed by Ian Thornley and Brian Doherty in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1992. The band was rounded out with David Henning and Forrest Williams. They disbanded in 2003 and Ian Thornley pursued a solo career with his own band Thornley. In 2010, Ian Thornley and Brian Doherty reunited for a cross-Canada tour, playing both Big Wreck and Thornley songs. In 2012, under the name Big Wreck, the band released their third studio album, Albatross. The band has since released the albums Ghosts in 2014, Grace Street in 2017, ...But for the Sun in 2019, 7 in 2023, and The Rest of the Story in 2025.
