Formed in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1972, Black Uhuru is a prominent reggae group. The ensemble, which takes its name from the Swahili word for freedom, has featured members including Duckie Simpson, Michael Rose, and Don Carlos. Throughout their career, the band signed with Island Records and achieved significant acclaim in the 1980s. Notably, their album Anthem secured the inaugural Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in 1985.
