Intro

Blake McGrath creates music that feels like it was born in a dance studio and finished in a high-end penthouse. It is characterized by a sleek, digital sheen that prioritizes rhythm and movement, reflecting his background as a world-class choreographer. The sound is unapologetically polished, utilizing heavy synth layers and crisp drum programming that demands physical engagement.

What sets him apart is the intersection of his 'queer' identity and a surprising late-career pivot into spiritual and gospel-influenced themes. His vocal delivery often jumps between breathy, intimate verses and powerful, belting choruses, frequently utilizing complex vocal layering that mimics the precision of his dance routines. There is a theatricality here that feels earned rather than forced.

Start with the 2010 debut 'Time to Move' to hear the peak of his dance-pop era, particularly the Frankie Goes to Hollywood-sampling 'Relax.' For a more introspective and soul-baring experience, his later work like 'INNERvention' showcases a more mature, spiritually focused artist who hasn't lost his pop sensibilities.
