Blessthefall emerged from the mid-2000s Phoenix scene as a pivotal force in the evolution of metalcore and post-hardcore. Initially fronted by Craig Mabbitt, the band's early work on His Last Walk helped define the 'screamo' aesthetic of the era.

However, the 2008 addition of Beau Bokan marked a significant shift toward a more melodic, polished sound that would come to define the Rise Records era of metalcore. Their sound identity is built on the interplay between Jared Warth’s aggressive unclean vocals and Bokan’s high-register melodic delivery, supported by Eric Lambert’s technical guitar work. Throughout the 2010s, they remained a staple of the Vans Warped Tour circuit, influencing a generation of bands that sought to bridge the gap between heavy technicality and pop-sensible song structures. Critical consensus often highlights their consistency and production quality, particularly on the Joey Sturgis-produced Hollow Bodies, which is widely considered a high-water mark for the genre. Despite a brief hiatus in the early 2020s, their 2023 return solidified their status as enduring veterans of the scene.
