Blonker

Blonker is the primary musical vehicle for German multi-instrumentalist Dieter Geike. Originally formed as a group in Hamburg during the late 1970s, it transitioned into a solo project by 1979.

Geike is a master of the melodic instrumental, occupying a space between the guitar-driven pop of The Shadows and the atmospheric fusion of Carlos Santana or Peter Green. His signature hit 'Indigo' established a blueprint for 'sophisticated easy listening' in Europe, characterized by clean guitar tones, subtle synth layering, and a gentle, melancholic undercurrent. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Blonker became a staple of European radio and a significant figure in the instrumental pop and new age scenes. The project is critically noted for its high production values and Geike's ability to maintain a 'live' feel within highly polished studio environments.
