Bozzio Levin Stevens

High-wire instrumental interplay where flamenco flourishes meet heavy polyrhythms. A masterclass in improvisational tension for fans of complex, muscular musicianship.

Intro

This is music that feels like a conversation between three masters who have nothing left to prove but everything to explore. It is heavy, but not in a traditional metal sense; the weight comes from the sheer density of the ideas and the physical presence of the instruments. You can hear the wood of the Chapman Stick, the snap of the flamenco guitar strings, and the melodic, tuned resonance of a massive drum kit. It is a sound that occupies the entire room, shifting from dark, ambient explorations to explosive, synchronized bursts of technical precision.

What sets this trio apart is the unexpected fusion of their individual pedigrees. Steve Stevens brings a cinematic, almost gothic rock sensibility and surprising Spanish guitar influences; Tony Levin provides a subterranean, elastic foundation that only a Chapman Stick can offer; and Terry Bozzio treats the drums like a lead melodic instrument. They avoid the sterile trap of many 'shred' projects by leaning into improvisation, allowing the tracks to breathe, grow, and occasionally spiral into beautiful, chaotic tension.

Start with 'Black Light Syndrome' to hear the group at their most expansive and atmospheric. It captures the raw energy of their initial meeting, where long-form tracks evolve naturally from quiet, moody introductions into towering walls of sound. It is the perfect entry point for anyone who loves the technicality of King Crimson but craves a more visceral, guitar-driven edge.

Bozzio Levin Stevens is an American supergroup power trio formed by drummer Terry Bozzio (Frank Zappa, U.K., Missing Persons, Steve Vai, Jeff Beck), bassist and Chapman Stick player Tony Levin (Peter Gabriel, King Crimson, Liquid Tension Experiment) and guitarist Steve Stevens (Billy Idol, Michael Jackson, Vince Neil). They have recorded two albums via Magna Carta. Their music is mostly improvised and touches on rock, fusion, jazz and instrumental classical styles.
