Brava was a Brazilian rock sextet formed in Rio de Janeiro in 2001, originally under the name Magnólia. After winning several regional festivals, they signed with Universal Music and released their self-titled debut in 2004.
Their sound is a bridge between the post-grunge era and the polished pop rock that dominated Brazilian airwaves in the mid-2000s. The band achieved significant cultural penetration through the soap opera Malhação, which served as a primary launchpad for rock acts of that era. Musically, they are characterized by Paula Marchesini's strong vocal presence and a dual-guitar/keyboard arrangement that provided a fuller sound than many of their power-trio peers. Despite their commercial momentum and critical success in the Rio scene, the group disbanded in 2006. They remain a cult favorite among fans of 'Pop Rock Brasil,' representing a moment when alternative rock and mainstream television were deeply intertwined.
