Busted

Busted emerged in 2001 as a disruptive force in the UK pop landscape, successfully blending the aesthetics of American pop-punk (Blink-182, Sum 41) with the commercial machinery of British pop. Comprising James Bourne, Matt Willis, and Charlie Simpson, the trio famously rejected the 'boy band' label by playing their own instruments and writing their own material, which often featured quirky, narrative-driven lyrics.

Their early career was defined by massive commercial success, including four UK number-one singles and two BRIT Awards, before a sudden split in 2005 when Simpson departed for the post-hardcore project Fightstar. This hiatus allowed the members to diversify; Bourne explored power-pop with Son of Dork, while Willis pursued solo work and television. Their 2015 reunion marked a significant shift, with the album 'Night Driver' embracing 80s synth-pop and R&B influences, moving away from their guitar-heavy roots before returning to them on 'Half Way There'. Critically, they are recognized for sparking a wave of guitar-based pop in the UK, influencing later acts like The Vamps and 5 Seconds of Summer.
