Caifanes is the definitive architect of modern Mexican rock, emerging in 1987 to bridge the gap between underground post-punk and mainstream success. Led by Saúl Hernández, the band’s sound evolved from the dark, synth-heavy new wave of their self-titled debut to the complex, Adrian Belew-produced textures of 'El Silencio'.
Their sonic identity is defined by Alejandro Marcovich’s inventive guitar work, which often utilizes unconventional scales and effects, and Sabo Romo’s melodic bass lines. Culturally, they were the catalyst for the 'Rock en Tu Idioma' movement, proving that Spanish-language rock could be intellectually rigorous and commercially viable.
