Cold, minimalist synth-pop from the 1980s York underground. Brittle drum machines and deadpan vocals create a haunting, urban atmosphere for late-night isolation.
Formed in York in 1982 by Peter Oldroyd and Nigel James, the British new wave and synth-pop group Camera Obscura initially gained traction in 1983 after signing with Small Wonder Records. Their single Destitution reached number 32 on the UK Indie Chart before the band dissolved in 1986. They reunited in 2005 for a German tour, subsequently releasing archival material, new singles, and a live EP through the label Anna Logue Records.
