Casiopea

High-speed, technical jazz fusion with a bright pop heart. Shimmering synths and slap bass grooves that feel like a neon-lit drive through 1980s Tokyo.

Intro

Formed in Tokyo in 1977, Casiopea is a pioneering Japanese ensemble known for blending jazz fusion, funk, and new wave. Founded by Issei Noro and Tetsuo Sakurai, the group has navigated various lineup shifts over decades, including the tenures of Minoru Mukaiya, Akira Jimbo, and Yoshihiro Naruse. Following a hiatus starting in 2006, the band returned in 2012 as Casiopea 3rd, featuring keyboardist Kiyomi Ōtaka, and continues to record under labels like Alfa and Polydor.
