Heavy, cosmic rock that bridges the gap between chaotic hardcore and interstellar melody. Massive riffs meet psychedelic atmosphere for a deep, expansive listen.
Cave In sounds like a supernova occurring in a small club. They possess a rare ability to pivot from bone-crushing metalcore riffs to shimmering, Radiohead-esque space rock without losing their core identity. The music is characterized by thick, muscular bass lines and guitars that alternate between jagged aggression and ethereal, delay-soaked textures.
What makes them truly distinctive is their restless evolution. While their peers often stuck to one lane, Cave In constantly dismantled their sound, incorporating 70s prog-rock ambition and 90s alternative sensibilities into a hardcore framework. This creates a unique tension where the songs feel both physically heavy and intellectually curious.
Start with 'Jupiter' if you want to hear the perfect marriage of melody and atmosphere. If you prefer the raw, chaotic energy of their roots, 'Until Your Heart Stops' is essential. For a modern synthesis of their entire journey, 'Heavy Pendulum' showcases their mastery of the heavy-yet-cosmic craft.
Cave In is an American rock band that formed in 1995 in Methuen, Massachusetts. The band's lineup solidified with the 1998 release of Until Your Heart Stops through Hydra Head Records, and their early albums were prominent in the metalcore scene. The band later experimented with other genres, receiving mainstream recognition for their 2003 RCA Records album Antenna and its lead single "Anchor," which had an overall alternative rock style. The group went on hiatus in 2006, later reforming in 2009 with the release of the Planets of Old EP, followed by the White Silence LP in 2011, both of which saw a return to Cave In's earlier and heavier sound.
