Gritty, tape-hiss heavy Memphis underground rap. Murky 808s and eerie synth loops create a haunting, lo-fi atmosphere for fans of raw horrorcore.
Children of the Corn (Memphis) is a seminal underground hip-hop collective led by producer Lil Grim. Emerging from the Westwood neighborhood in the early 1990s, they are a cornerstone of the Memphis horrorcore scene, characterized by extremely lo-fi production, occult imagery, and aggressive, multi-syllabic flows.
The group's history is intertwined with Graveyard Productions, a name they adopted for later releases to further lean into their dark aesthetic. Their sound is defined by the use of the Boss DR-660 drum machine, murky sampling, and a 'tape-rip' quality that has become a highly sought-after aesthetic in the digital age. Despite limited commercial reach during their active years, they have achieved legendary status among crate-diggers and fans of Southern rap history. Their influence is visible in the rise of Three 6 Mafia and the contemporary 'phonk' genre, which often samples their vocal loops and mimics their distorted, bass-heavy production style. The collective featured a rotating cast of MCs, including Red Dog and Mac E, the latter of whom transitioned into a successful career as a blues guitarist.
