Chrome Division is a Norwegian 'biker metal' supergroup formed in 2004 by Shagrath, the primary creative force behind the symphonic black metal giants Dimmu Borgir. The project serves as a stylistic antithesis to the members' primary bands, trading atmospheric complexity for the 'booze, broads, and Beelzebub' aesthetic of classic hard rock.
Their sound is heavily indebted to the high-speed rock of Motörhead, the southern-fried metal of Black Label Society, and the stadium-sized hooks of AC/DC. Despite their extreme metal pedigree, Chrome Division focuses on 'stripped down groovy Rock 'n Roll' with a primitive, street-level attitude. Over five albums released via Nuclear Blast, they have maintained a consistent sonic identity characterized by Eddie Guz's gravelly vocals and Shagrath's rhythmic guitar work. Critically, they are often compared to Turbonegro for their 'deathpunk' spirit and sense of fun, though Chrome Division leans harder into the heavy metal tradition.
