Intro

Coco Love Alcorn creates a sonic space that feels remarkably lived-in and comfortable. Her voice is the centerpiece: a rich, limber instrument that can whisper with intimate precision or swell into a soulful simmer. It is jazz-inflected but never academic, carrying the accessibility of pop with the emotional weight of classic soul. The arrangements often favor a warm, organic glow that highlights the natural timbre of her singing.

What sets her apart is the sheer optimism and presence in her delivery. While many of her contemporaries lean into the smoky, late-night tropes of vocal jazz, Alcorn often sounds like she is singing in the bright light of day. There is a rhythmic playfulness to her work, likely informed by her diverse touring history with folk and rock acts, which prevents the music from ever feeling static or overly formal.

Start with the album 'Sugar' for a masterclass in her ambient, soulful jazz style, or 'Rebirth' to hear her evolve into more contemporary, layered choral textures. It is the perfect soundtrack for moments that require a gentle but firm emotional grounding, offering a sense of peace that never feels passive.

Alcorn is an avid cyclist who has written songs inspired by cycling and her bicycles. Alcorn and Simon Farla became the parents of Eloise on 14 September 2010. After spending several years raising her daughter, she returned to music and released the album Wonderland in 2016. Alcorn was born in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, and moved several times with her family, living also in Toronto and Vancouver. She attended Berklee College of Music in Boston for one semester, then moved to Vancouver and began performing. She released her debut album in 1995. She moved to Toronto, then went on tour as the opening act for Ani DiFranco and as a backup singer for the Canadian rock band 54 40. She won the Canadian Folk Music Award for Contemporary Singer of the Year at the 16th Canadian Folk Music Awards in 2021, for her album Rebirth.
