Intro

Cosmos creates a world where the human voice is the only tool required to build a skyscraper of sound. Their music is a marvel of technical precision, where six men use their vocal cords to replicate everything from deep bass synths to crisp snare drums and soaring lead guitars. It feels both ancient, rooted in the deep choral traditions of the Baltics, and startlingly modern in its pop sensibilities.

What truly sets them apart is the sheer range of their vocal palette. By utilizing two countertenors, they achieve a shimmering, high-register brilliance that most male groups cannot touch. This is paired with intricate beatboxing that provides a rhythmic backbone so steady you'll forget there isn't a drum kit in the room. It is music that celebrates the physical capability of the human body to create art.

Start with their self-titled debut or 'Aiming for the Stars' to hear how they navigate the line between traditional folk-influenced harmonies and high-energy Eurovision pop. It is an essential listen for anyone who appreciates the intersection of classical training and contemporary production.

Vocal Group Cosmos (commonly known as Cosmos) was a Latvian a cappella band that formed in Riga in 2002. The band comprised singers Jānis Šipkēvics, Andris Sējāns (both countertenors), Juris Lisenko (tenor), Jānis Ozols (baritone), Jānis Strazdiņš (bass) and Reinis Sējāns (beatbox). Cosmos gained national and international recognition after they were chosen to represent Latvia in the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest held in Athens, Greece, with the song "I Hear Your Heart". Despite winning the national Eirodziesma 2006 contest, the band finished in joint sixteenth place out of the twenty-four finalists, with thirty points.
