Shadowy, slow-motion electronic beats that feel like a midnight walk through a fog-heavy city. Haunting trip-hop for the late-night thinkers.
CREEP (stylized as CREƎP) is a Brooklyn-based electronic duo consisting of Lauren Flax and Lauren Dillard, formed in 2009. Emerging during the height of the witch house movement, they distinguished themselves through high-production values and a sophisticated integration of trip-hop and UK bass influences.
Lauren Flax, already an established house DJ and member of Fischerspooner's touring unit, brought a technical rigour to the project that separated it from the more lo-fi aesthetics of their contemporaries. Their sound identity is built on slow-tempo, heavy-bass foundations topped with ethereal, often breathy vocal performances from a diverse range of collaborators. This collaborative spirit led them to work with artists across the indie and R&B spectrum, most notably Romy Madley Croft of The xx, whose appearance on the single Days became a definitive moment for the early 2010s dark electronic scene. Critically, CREEP is viewed as a bridge between the underground occult-electronic trends and a more polished, cinematic form of darkwave. Their career reached its peak with the 2013 album Echoes, released on their own CREEP INTL label after a stint with the influential Young Turks. They remain a key reference point for the 'dark pop' evolution of electronic music.
