Cry of the Afflicted

Cry of the Afflicted emerged from the Kelowna, BC scene in 2003, quickly ascending from local favorites to international contenders within the Christian-adjacent post-hardcore circuit. Their sound is archetypal of the mid-2000s melodic metalcore movement, characterized by a fusion of Swedish-influenced guitar melodies and the raw emotional delivery of American screamo.

Their career trajectory was brief but impactful, culminating in their signing to the influential Solid State Records. Working with producer Jeff Schneeweis, they developed a sound that prioritized high-fidelity clarity over lo-fi grit, aligning them with peers like Emery and Haste the Day. Critically, they are remembered for their tight musicianship and ability to weave spiritual and existential themes into a high-energy framework. Though they disbanded in 2008, their members' subsequent involvement in projects like Secret and Whisper has maintained their relevance among collectors and fans of the 'MySpace era' post-hardcore sound.
