Intro

Curtis Harding creates music that feels like a rediscovered 1970s master tape that somehow sounds more modern than anything on the radio. It is a rich, textured blend of 'slop and soul' that prioritizes the groove and the emotional weight of the vocal over genre purity. You can hear the red clay of Georgia and the grit of Michigan in every note, filtered through a psychedelic lens that makes the familiar feel slightly otherworldly.

What sets Harding apart is his ability to bridge the gap between the raw energy of garage rock and the sophisticated arrangements of classic R&B. While many soul revivalists focus on mimicry, Harding uses vintage tools to build something entirely new. His collaborations with producers like Danger Mouse add a cinematic, widescreen quality to his sound, layering fuzzed-out guitars over tight, snapping drum breaks and lush orchestral flourishes.

Start with the album Face Your Fear. It perfectly captures his evolution from the raw, guitar-driven energy of his debut to a more expansive, atmospheric sound. The title track and 'Need Your Love' serve as the perfect entry points into his world of high-fidelity heartache and cool, collected swagger.

Curtis Harding (born June 11, 1979) is an American singer and songwriter. Primarily a soul artist, his "slop 'n' soul" style carries the influence of genres including blues, gospel, psychedelia, R&B, and rock. His first album, Soul Power (2014), was followed by Face Your Fear in 2017, with production from Danger Mouse and Sam Cohen. Harding was born in Saginaw, Michigan, and his family settled in Atlanta when he was a teenager. He was exposed to music at an early age as his family toured with his mother, who was a gospel singer. In the 2000s, Harding backed CeeLo Green, and he formed the R&B/garage rock band Night Sun in Atlanta with Black Lips members in 2009.
