DAB

DAB, an acronym for Digital Analog Band, was formed in 2001 in Zaragoza, Spain, by producers Pedro Andrew and Luis Sancho. Operating out of Atico13 Studios, the duo sought to synthesize their extensive production backgrounds into a project that balanced electronic textures with organic musicianship.

Their sound became synonymous with the 'Cafe del Mar' aesthetic, characterized by high-fidelity downtempo, lounge, and nu jazz. Their debut, 'The Best' (2003), was notably the first artist-specific release on the Cafe del Mar Music label, cementing their status as pillars of the Balearic chillout scene. Musically, DAB is defined by 'analog warmth' and 'studio-polished' arrangements, often featuring guest musicians on trumpet, guitar, and percussion to break the rigidity of programmed beats. Critically, they are respected for maintaining a high standard of composition in a genre often criticized for being derivative. Their influence persists in the 'luxury lounge' and 'study beats' niches, bridging the gap between 90s trip-hop and modern lo-fi aesthetics.
