Damon & Naomi emerged from the 1991 dissolution of the influential indie-rock trio Galaxie 500. Comprised of Damon Krukowski and Naomi Yang, the duo shifted away from the electric, velvet-underground-inspired sound of their former band toward a more skeletal, folk-inflected aesthetic.
Their early work was heavily shaped by producer Kramer and his Shimmy Disc label, which emphasized a psychedelic, reverb-heavy intimacy. Over three decades, they have maintained a consistent identity as purveyors of 'everything quieter than everything else,' often collaborating with Japanese psych-rockers Ghost to expand their sonic palette into more avant-garde territory. Beyond music, their work is deeply tied to their publishing house, Exact Change, which focuses on surrealist and experimental literature, a connection reflected in the high-brow, contemplative nature of their songwriting. They occupy a unique space in the indie canon as the bridge between 60s acid-folk and modern slowcore.
