Dark Chisme

Dark Chisme is a Seattle-based duo consisting of Christine Gutierrez and E, representing a modern evolution of the darkwave genre. Founded by Gutierrez, a Chicago-raised DJ, the project is heavily informed by the industrial and house history of her home city, blended with the moody, rain-slicked atmosphere of the Pacific Northwest.

Their sound identity is defined by a 'Latin-Goth' synthesis, utilizing heavy techno-influenced percussion and thick synth-bass foundations. Since their debut in 2023, they have rapidly expanded their discography, moving from minimalist coldwave beginnings toward a more maximalist, club-oriented production style. Critically, they are noted for breaking the monochromatic tropes of darkwave by introducing rhythmic complexities from house and techno. They occupy a unique cultural position as a bilingual act in a genre often dominated by English and German-speaking artists, making them a bridge between the goth subculture and the broader electronic dance community.
