Datarock

Datarock is a Norwegian electronic rock outfit formed in Bergen in 2000, primarily led by Fredrik Saroea and Ketil Mosnes. Their sound identity is a precise synthesis of post-punk, funk, and synth-pop, heavily influenced by the art-rock sensibilities of Devo and the rhythmic elasticity of Talking Heads.

They emerged during the 'dance-punk' or 'new rave' revival of the mid-2000s, finding a global audience through a combination of high-concept visual branding (the red tracksuits) and strategic licensing in video games and commercials. Their debut album 'Datarock Datarock' (2005) remains their most influential work, establishing a 'computer rock' aesthetic that utilized digital precision to mimic live funk grooves.
