Intro

Dayglo Abortions sound like a high-speed collision between a thrash metal band and a group of nihilistic pranksters. Their music is defined by a raw, unpolished energy that prioritizes speed and impact over technical perfection, though the guitar work often reveals a surprising heavy metal influence. It is snotty, loud, and intentionally abrasive, designed to rattle the windows and offend the polite.

What truly sets them apart is their commitment to offensive satire. They occupy a space where political commentary meets toilet humor, using shock tactics to dismantle societal taboos and mock authority figures. This isn't just punk for the sake of noise; it is a calculated middle finger to censorship and decorum, delivered with a smirk and a relentless d-beat rhythm.

Start with 'Feed Us A Fetus' or 'Here Today, Guano Tomorrow.' These albums capture the band at their most culturally volatile, offering a masterclass in how to blend crossover thrash intensity with the kind of lyrics that once landed their record label in a Canadian courtroom.

The Dayglo Abortions (sometimes abbreviated to DGA) are a Canadian hardcore punk and metal band from Victoria, British Columbia. Their lyrics reflect a genre-typical disregard for societal norms. The band was formed in 1979 and released their first album in 1981. The band's biography, Argh Fuck Kill: The Story of the Dayglo Abortions, by the author Chris Walter, was published in 2010 by Gofuckyerself Press. Gymbo Jak, the lead singer from 1994 to 2007, also sang for the Toronto-based Maximum RNR.
