Hyper-melodic, fast-paced Swedish trallpunk with a heavy dose of satirical humor. Perfect for high-energy road trips and sweaty, nostalgic singalongs.
De Lyckliga Kompisarna (DLK) deliver a highly specific brand of Swedish punk rock known as trallpunk, characterized by its incredibly fast, driving d-beat rhythms paired with surprisingly sweet, infectious melodies. The guitars buzz with a classic 90s analog grit, while the bass lines run circles around the chord progressions, creating a sound that is simultaneously aggressive and joyfully danceable. It is music that feels like a warm, chaotic hug from a group of rowdy friends.
What truly sets DLK apart is their lyrical wit and the distinctive, nasal vocal delivery of frontman Mart Hällgren. Instead of the grim nihilism of traditional hardcore punk, they lean heavily into satire, humor, and sharp social commentary, singing about everything from bad haircuts to mundane suburban struggles. The vocal harmonies are rough-around-the-edges but incredibly catchy, designed specifically for crowd singalongs in packed, sweaty basement venues.
To get the true DLK experience, start with their 1991 debut album 'Le som en fotomodell' or their iconic track 'Ishockeyfrisyr' (often called 'Hockeyfrilla'). These recordings capture the band at their peak of youthful energy, offering a perfect entry point into the unique, melody-driven world of Swedish punk history.
De Lyckliga Kompisarna (Swedish for ’The Happy Friends’), DLK, is a Swedish melodious punk band. The band was formed in 1989, split up in 1997, and re-united in 2008. They are probably best known for their song "Ishockeyfrisyr", which is also known as "Hockeyfrilla" (Swedish for "mullet"). They also made a music video for it. The band is headed by Mart Hällgren who both wrote songs, sang and played several instruments. DLK split up after two farewell gigs at Kafé 44 in Stockholm, Sweden. These gigs were recorded and compiled into a live album. After DLK, Martin Hällgren began a solo career as "Mart" (he had previously played solo in the band Total Egon), but later started the band UBBA. De Lyckliga Kompisarna stated in January 2008 that they would begin playing again, and the band has since gone on tour and released a new EP.
