High-octane Dutch supergroup delivering glittery medleys and stadium-sized singalongs. Pure camp, unbridled energy, and the ultimate soundtrack for a massive party.
Imagine a stadium filled with sixty thousand people wearing matching neon outfits, all singing the same chorus at the top of their lungs. De Toppers represent the absolute peak of Dutch 'Gezelligheid' transformed into a massive musical spectacle. Their sound is a relentless, high-gloss blend of classic pop hits, schlager sentimentality, and danceable medleys that refuse to let the energy dip for even a second. It is music designed for the largest possible rooms and the loudest possible crowds.
What makes them truly distinctive is the 'supergroup' dynamic. By combining the individual star power of Dutch icons like René Froger and Gerard Joling, they created a vocal wall of sound that is both technically proficient and intentionally over-the-top. The production is unapologetically maximalist, featuring bright synths, booming drums, and orchestral flourishes that feel like a permanent Eurovision finale. It is campy, colorful, and completely sincere in its pursuit of a good time.
If you are new to the phenomenon, start with one of their 'Toppers in Concert' live albums. These recordings capture the group in their natural habitat: the Johan Cruyff Arena. You will hear the roar of the crowd and the seamless transition between global pop standards and Dutch folk-pop classics, providing the perfect entry point into the most successful concert series in the Benelux.
De Toppers (Dutch pronunciation: [də ˈtɔpərs]), also known internationally as The Toppers, is a Dutch supergroup, consisting of René Froger, Gerard Joling, Jeroen van der Boom and Jan Smit. Gordon Heuckeroth, one of the founding members, left the group in 2011. The group has performed a series of concerts every year since 2005 in the Johan Cruyff Arena. Their repertoire consists mainly of a mix of covers and original material. Toppers in Concert, with more than 40 sold-out shows, is the longest running concert series in the Benelux. In 2008, the Toppers were selected to represent the Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 held in Moscow, Russia, with the song "Shine". They failed to qualify for the final.
