Des Ark

Des Ark is the primary musical vehicle for Aimée Argote, a central figure in the North Carolina DIY and indie rock scenes since the early 2000s. Emerging from the same creative soil as bands like Archers of Loaf or Superchunk, Des Ark carved out a unique space by blending southern folk traditions with the aggressive, complex structures of math rock and post-hardcore.

The project has functioned both as a loud, rotating-member rock band and a solo acoustic endeavor, with Argote’s singular voice and percussive guitar style serving as the constant thread. Critically, the band is noted for its uncompromising lyrical content, which frequently explores queer identity and interpersonal trauma with a level of profanity and visceral detail that challenges traditional folk tropes.
