Olaf Dettinger is a seminal figure in the development of the 'Pop Ambient' aesthetic, primarily associated with the influential Cologne-based label Kompakt. Emerging in the late 1990s, Dettinger was responsible for the first single-artist long-player on Kompakt (1999's Intershop), helping to define the label's transition from hard-edged techno to a more melodic, atmospheric sensibility.
