Dinosaur

Dinosaur is a pivotal ensemble in the modern UK jazz explosion, led by trumpeter and composer Laura Jurd. Formed in 2010, the quartet represents a shift away from the academic rigidity of post-bop toward a more eclectic, genre-fluid aesthetic that incorporates elements of folk, synth-pop, and minimalism.

Their sound identity is defined by Jurd's lyrical trumpet playing and the band's collective use of analog synthesizers, which adds a 'shimmering' textural layer to their traditional acoustic foundation. Their 2016 debut 'Together, As One' was a critical breakthrough, earning a Mercury Prize nomination and establishing them as leaders in the London scene. The band's evolution has seen them move from the synth-heavy experimentation of 'Wonder Trail' back toward a more acoustic, 'chamber jazz' focus on 'To The Earth,' demonstrating a restless creative curiosity.
