Dioxyde is a Spanish electro-industrial project formed in 1999 by Marco Calvo, later joined by Carlos Ruiz and Jorge Bibiano. Emerging from the Madrid EBM scene, the project gained international recognition after being championed by Johan Van Roy of Suicide Commando.
Their sound is a definitive example of the 'Aggrotech' or 'Harsh EBM' movement of the early to mid-2000s, characterized by high BPMs, heavily distorted vocals, and a focus on themes of psychological distress and social alienation. The project's trajectory was significantly impacted by a severe motorcycle accident suffered by Calvo in 2004, which delayed the release of their second major work. Critically, Dioxyde is respected for bringing a high level of production polish to the often-lo-fi harsh electro genre, influencing the transition of industrial music from experimental noise toward club-oriented aggression.
