Divination

Divination is a seminal ambient dub project spearheaded by prolific bassist and producer Bill Laswell, primarily active during the mid-1990s through his Axiom and Subharmonic labels. The project represents a critical junction in the '90s electronic landscape, where the aesthetics of Fourth World music, dub, and ambient techno converged.

Laswell utilized Divination as a collaborative vehicle, frequently involving luminaries like Jah Wobble, Pete Namlook, and Tetsu Inoue to explore the outer limits of space and bass. The sound identity is defined by its 'Dead Slow' tempo, emphasizing cavernous reverb, sub-bass frequencies, and a total lack of traditional pop structure.
