DJ Smash, born Andrey Leonidovich Shirman, is a pivotal figure in the evolution of Russian electronic dance music. Emerging from Perm as a child prodigy, he transitioned from early experiments in jazzy grooves and hip-hop to becoming the architect of the 'glamour-house' sound that defined Moscow's nightlife in the 2000s.

His residency at legendary clubs like Dyagilev and Zima Project allowed him to refine a sound that catered to the VIP culture of the era: high-production value, anthemic hooks, and a relentless energy. His 2007 breakout 'Moscow Never Sleeps' bridged the gap between underground club culture and mainstream pop, becoming a multi-platinum success. Critically, he is viewed as a commercial powerhouse who successfully localized Eurodance and House trends for a Russian audience. His influence is seen in the rise of subsequent Russian dance acts like Filatov & Karas.
