Rapid-fire acoustic guitar runs and weeping violin melodies. The definitive sound of 1930s Paris, blending Romani soul with swinging jazz energy.
Born in Belgium, Jean Reinhardt, known as Django, was a pioneering guitarist and composer who became a central figure in European jazz. In 1934, he co-founded the Quintette du Hot Club de France, a group that elevated the guitar to a lead role. His work blended Romani influences with jazz and bebop, resulting in enduring standards. Reinhardt performed alongside notable American musicians before his sudden death in 1953 at age 43.
