Dntel is the primary alias of James Scott Tamborello, a pivotal figure in the evolution of indietronica and glitch-pop. Emerging from the Los Angeles underground in the late 1990s, Tamborello's work as Dntel bridged the gap between the cerebral, often cold world of IDM (Intelligent Dance Music) and the emotional immediacy of indie rock.

His landmark 2001 album, 'Life Is Full of Possibilities', is widely cited as a genre-defining release, particularly for the track '(This Is) The Dream of Evan and Chan' featuring Ben Gibbard. This collaboration directly led to the formation of The Postal Service, one of the most commercially successful electronic-pop acts of the 2000s. Tamborello's sound identity is characterized by 'broken' electronics - using digital artifacts, static, and rhythmic glitches as primary instruments - interwoven with traditional songwriting.
