Golden-age Britpop with a heavy dose of 60s sunshine. Shimmering guitars and massive vocal harmonies for long summer drives and backyard hangouts.
Dodgy emerged from Hounslow in 1990, positioning themselves as a bridge between the baggy scene and the impending Britpop explosion. Formed by Nigel Clark, Mathew Priest, and Andy Miller, the trio developed a sound deeply rooted in 1960s Mod and West Coast pop.
Their early work, produced by Ian Broudie of The Lightning Seeds, established their signature blend of infectious hooks and sophisticated vocal stacking. While they achieved massive commercial success with the multi-platinum 'Free Peace Sweet' and the ubiquitous single 'Good Enough', the band maintained a distinct identity through their grassroots fan connection and DIY ethos. After a hiatus in the late 90s and early 2000s, the original lineup reunited, evolving into a more mature, folk-influenced 'chamber pop' sound on later albums like 'Stand Upright In A Cool Place'. Critically, they are regarded as one of the most musically proficient acts of the Britpop era, often unfairly pigeonholed as 'clowns' despite their complex arrangements and enduring melodic craftsmanship.
