Dom

Dom is the musical project of Dominic Cournoyer, emerging from the DIY scene of Worcester, Massachusetts in 2010. The project gained immediate critical traction during the 'blog-house' and 'chillwave' era, though it stood apart due to its aggressive lo-fi aesthetic and punk-adjacent energy.

The sound identity is defined by the use of 'broken' technology - specifically Casio keyboards and cheap samplers - processed through heavy distortion and tape saturation. This creates a 'sun-drenched' but 'warped' sonic profile that mirrors the hedonism and burnout of youth culture. Career-wise, Dom followed the success of the Sun Bronzed Greek Gods EP with the more polished but still eccentric Family of Love in 2011, before moving into more sporadic releases. Culturally, Dom represents a specific bridge between the lo-fi bedroom pop movement and the more maximalist indie pop of the 2010s. Influences range from the melodic sensibilities of 60s garage rock to the electronic experimentation of early synth-pop, resulting in a sound that critics often described as 'neon-punk' or 'trash-pop.'
