Dragonland

Dragonland is a cornerstone of the Swedish power metal scene, emerging from Gothenburg in 1999. While they share the melodic sensibilities of their local peers, they distinguished themselves early on through 'The Dragonland Chronicles,' a multi-album fantasy saga.

Their sound has evolved from the relatively straightforward, heavy power metal of 'The Battle of the Ivory Plains' into a more complex, symphonic, and progressive style. A pivotal moment in their discography was 'Astronomy' (2006), which introduced more cosmic and existential themes alongside enhanced electronic production. The band is highly regarded for the technical synergy between guitarists Olof Mörck (also of Amaranthe) and Elias Holmlid's sophisticated keyboard arrangements. Despite long hiatuses between releases, they maintain a dedicated global following due to their high production standards and ability to balance aggressive metal tropes with genuine cinematic beauty. Their 2022 return, 'The Power of the Nightstar,' reaffirmed their position as leaders in the 'Epic' sub-sector of the genre, blending sci-fi narratives with modern symphonic metal polish.
