Drop the Lime

Gritty New York club energy meets 1950s greaser swagger. Heavy basslines and rockabilly crooning for late nights in leather jackets.

Intro

Drop the Lime sounds like a high-speed chase through a futuristic version of 1950s Brooklyn. It is a collision of heavy, wobbling basslines and the sharp, syncopated rhythms of fidget house, all topped with a vocal delivery that feels more at home in a rockabilly dive bar than a mainstage festival. The music is kinetic, unpredictable, and deeply rooted in the gritty nightlife of New York City.

What makes Luca Venezia distinctive is his ability to blend seemingly incompatible worlds. He takes the raw, aggressive energy of breakcore and the low-end weight of dubstep, then injects them with the soul of doo-wop and the swagger of a leather-clad greaser. It is a 'heavy bass' sound that maintains a melodic, almost cinematic quality, characterized by sudden breakdowns and 'goblin' bass textures that snarl beneath his scratchy, bluesy vocals.

Start with the album 'Enter The Night' to hear the full realization of his rockabilly-meets-rave vision. For those who want to hear his more chaotic, experimental roots, 'Bad Girlz' offers a glimpse into the breakcore-influenced sound that first put him on the map in the underground NYC scene.

Drop the Lime (born Luca Venezia in New York City) is an electronic producer and DJ and founder of dance label Trouble & Bass. Drop the Lime's new material and DJ sets also feature live vocals on original compositions. With roots in breakcore music, in 2008 he changed his focus to more mainstream dance music, remixing tracks for Armand Van Helden, Little Boots, Robyn, Moby, Rex the Dog, Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip and Buraka Som Sistema as well as indie acts such as Surfer Blood, Creep and O. Children Over the years, Venezia has created his own distinct twist on the Trouble & Bass sound and now combines his love of Rockabilly with his own take on bass-driven music. In 2015, Drop The Lime finished, and Venezia pursued other musical projects.
