Ebola

Formed in 1996 in Bangkok, Ebola (often stylized as EBOLA) is a cornerstone of the Thai alternative metal and hard rock movement. Initially emerging from the underground scene with a heavier, more aggressive sound influenced by death metal and nu-metal, the band underwent a significant evolution toward a more melodic, anthemic style by the mid-2000s.

This shift was solidified with their 2005 album 'Enlighten', which garnered critical acclaim and major awards, including Best Rock Album from Hamburger Magazine. Their sound identity is built on a foundation of drop-tuned electric guitars and a high-fidelity production style that emphasizes clarity and power. Culturally, they are significant for introducing 'meaningful rock' to a wide audience in Southeast Asia, focusing on Buddhist-influenced themes of enlightenment and perseverance rather than typical rock tropes. They have maintained a consistent presence in the Thai charts for over two decades, transitioning through major labels like Warner Music Thailand to their current home at ME Records. Their influence is seen in the subsequent wave of Thai rock bands that blend heavy instrumentation with pop-sensible structures.
