Edison

Edison is an American alternative rock quintet that emerged in the mid-2000s, founded by singer Ethan Isaac and guitarist Jonathan Svec. Svec brought significant industry pedigree to the project, having previously been a member of the major-label act Splender.

Despite these commercial ties, Edison intentionally cultivated an underground, roots-based identity. Their sound is characterized by a rejection of 'digitized, pre-fab' production, opting instead for a raw, organic aesthetic that emphasizes emotional honesty and complex sonic arrangements. They gained significant notoriety for their extensive international touring, which included performing for military personnel in over 20 countries and filming a music video in Iraq, a first for a rock band. This 'war-zone' grit translated into their studio work, which often features existential themes and social commentary. Critically, they are viewed as a bridge between the polished post-grunge of the late 90s and the more experimental, independent rock spirits of the 2010s. Their catalog, including 'Not What Ships Are Built For' and 'People Are Bad Animals', showcases a band comfortable with high-intensity dynamics and a 'thorny' textural approach to guitar-driven music.
